The Public Transport Authority has many built-in safety features on the system but every year on Perth’s urban rail network, hundreds of people trespass onto the tracks.

One area of concern is when someone jumps over or pushes through the pedestrian gates to beat the train.  When trains travel at speeds of up to 130k/hr and take 800m to stop, this split second decision could cost them their life.

When someone takes that chance, it’s not only the person who trespasses who’s in danger. Their actions also impact train drivers, transit officers and other people involved in managing the incident.

The Trains Move Faster Than You, campaign has been developed to educate young people and the wider community on the impact that trespass at pedestrian gates and the near miss incidents have not only on the individual and their family but to our staff.
